The Lost Boy Vocabulary Words
Chapter 3- Aqueduct- n. a bridge like structure that carries a water conduit or canal across a valley or over a river
- Sentence- The aqueduct filled with water, helped the boat move through to get onto the other side.
- Verge- n. the edge, rim, or margin of something
- Sentence- The car collided on the verge side of the street which caused a severe accident.
- Pediatrician- n. a physician who specializes in pediatrics
- Sentence- When I was little, I always wanted to be a pediatrician or anything that serves in the medical field.
- Ramble- v. to wander around in a leisurely, aimless manner
- Sentence- My cousin was too shocked and depressed at what she heard so she rambled around the room.
- Unison- n. coincidence in pitch of two or more musical tones, voices, etc
- Sentence- Two Malaysian girls danced in unison at the First Salsa Dance Competition.
- Depressors- n. Any of various muscles that serve to draw down a part of the body.
- Sentence- The tongue inserted a toungue depressor on the patients tongue.
- Rehearsed- v. to practice (a musical composition, a play, a speech, etc.) in private prior to a public presentation
- Sentence- Two theater actors rehearsed their line during break time.
- Hypersonic- adj. noting or pertaining to speed that is at least five times that of sound in the same medium.
- Sentence- The hypersonic airplane soared through the air.
- Surge- n. a strong, wavelike, forward movement, rush, or sweep
- Sentence- The surge of the wave moved toward the house that was located on the beach.
- Nudged- v. to push slightly or gently, esp. with the elbow, to get someone's attention, prod someone into action, etc.
- Sentence- The duck nudged the fish that swam past through it.
- Astounded- tr. v To astonish and bewilder
- Sentence- The guy facial expression seem so astounded at what he saw on the internet.
