The Lost Boy Chapter 1 Vocabulary Words



Morsel- n. a bite, mouthful, or small portion of food, candy, etc
Sentence: I didn't have much time to eat, so I only ate a morsel amount of the food I brought for work.


Meek- adj. humbly patient or docile, as under provocation from others
Sentence: My 4rth grade teacher was so meek.



Timidly- adj. lacking in self-assurance, courage, or bravery; easily alarmed; timorous; shy
Sentence: I timidly apologized to my mother.



Sarcastic- adj. of, pertaining to, or characterized by sarcasm
Sentence: I hated my classmate for always giving me a sarcastic look.



Verge- n. the edge, rim, or margin of something
Sentence: My friends parents were on the verge of being obscene at a party.



Stabilize- v. to make or hold stable, firm, or steadfast.
Sentence: The couple had a hard time stabilizing the heavy stick.



Triumphantly- adj. having achieved victory or success; victorious; successful.
Sentence: The man triumphantly ran past the finish line,



Torturous- adj. pertaining to, involving, or causing torture or suffering
Sentence: The man in the picture was so torturous.



Concoction- n. the act or process of concocting
Sentence: The mother concoction the food that was on the spoon without gagging.



Pierces- v. To make a hole or opening in
Sentence: The girl pierces her tongue, and everything around her mouth.


Anticipation- n. expectation or hope
Sentence: I shivered in anticipation.


Swivels- n. A link, pivot, or other fastening so designed that it permits the free turning of attached parts
Sentence: I lost my swivel when I went hiking.
