Chapter 3 Bad Boy
1.According to the chapter, Dave had an unfortunate luck of getting caught of mischief even though his brothers were also committing the same crime than he was.
2. Dave's brothers didn't get the same punishment as what he did, because his punishments were more brutal while his brothers punishments weren’t bad at all compared to what Dave got. For example Dave got his face smashed against the mirror, and while his face rubbed against the mirror his mother forced him to repeat, "I’m a bad boy, I’m a bad boy, I’m a bad boy...."
3. The mother would act totally different while the father wasn't around the house. Often times she would yell at Dave and his brothers and forcing them to look for something in the house, and they had no clue in what they had to look for. When the father was home meant there were no beatings for Dave.
4. When Dave's mother wore a dress meant she was going to be in a great mood.
5. The difference between the mirror treatment and the corner treatment is that, the mirror treatment was much more brutal than the corner treatment. Dave's mother would grab Dave and smash his face against the mirror, and forces him to keep repeating, "I’m a bad boy." I would much prefer the corner treatment than the mirror treatment, because I don’t want to get my face smashed against the mirror and repeat, "I’m a bad boy", because I know I didn’t deserve it.
6. Dave would often fantasize about finding the item that his mother told him to look for. The reason for his fantasy was because he would hope that there was going to be a good prize after, like for example he would march upstairs holding the item and his mother would give him hugs and kisses, then the family would live happily ever after.
7. Life was much better when his dad was him, because that meant no beatings, mirror treatments, or long searches. Dave would also follow his dad everywhere he went. His dad was like a protector.
8. Dave and his father had a good son and father relationship. For example, they would do the dishes together.
9. The first major abuse from mom was when she broke his bone. The event that led to this abuse was when mother grabbed; she then suddenly lost her balance and staggered a step back. She jerked violently to regain her balance, then suddenly they both heard a pop, and Dave felt a sharp pain.
10. The reason why mother told Dave to sleep on the top bunk was so it wouldn’t look obvious that she had broken his bone, but instead he had fallen off the top bunk. When Dave woke up, she would tell him that he fell off the top bunk and take him to the hospital.
11. School for Dave was like haven. School kept him away from his horrible abusive mother. He would take advantage of everything while he was at school, because back at home he wouldn’t be able to have fun like how he was having fun at school.
12. Even though Dave's mother treated him poorly, he still loved her, because she was his mom.
13. Dave was unable to tell his feelings to mother, because she wouldn’t even let him speak.
14. In order for Dave to survive he must not give in to his mother. He would never give her the satisfaction of begging or crying for her to stop beating him.
15. Other was proud of Ron, and she often compares him to Dave and she was glad she didn’t turn out like Dave.
