Ch. 1&2 Vocabulary Words







1. Blitzed- adj. drunk or stoned.
Dave's mother was often blitzed during the times when she gives him his punishments.


2. ventured- n. an undertaking involving uncertainty as to the outcome, esp. a risky or dangerous one.
My boyfriend and I decided to go mountain climbing venture.


3. meticulously- adj. taking or showing extreme care about minute details; precise; thorough
Sasha had meticulously measured how plants might grow on the Red Planet under a variety of soil and atmospheric conditions.



4. fiend- n. an evil spirit; demon.
The fiend of the mountains was ferocious.




5. modest- adj. having or showing regard for the decencies of behavior, speech, dress, etc.; decent
Many young women in the old days used to dress modest.








6. reluctantly- adj. struggling in opposition.
The boy reluctantly opened his mouth.









7. scalding- v. To burn with or as if with hot liquid or steam.
The boy's foot was scalding with pain.





8. topple- to fall forward, as from having too heavy a top; pitch; tumble down.
The items on the shelf toppled.






9. defiance- a daring or bold resistance to authority or to any opposing force.
The actor in the movie had a defiance role.
