Chapter 9
" Coming Around"
  1. What does David pray for every night? Why?Every night, David would always pray that Gordon would finally decide his fate.
  2. 3.Does Alice want him to stay with her? What is the trouble? Alice and Harold decided they would like David to stay for awhile. The only problem about David staying was that Alice and Harold didn't have a license for boys to stay at their home since they only had a license for girls only.
  3. 4.Describe David's and Harold’s relationship.David and Harold didnt really talk much. When Harold spoke some few words it would be for David to read instead of watching television shows.
  4. 5.What is David's child fantasy? David's child fantasy was building a log cabin at the Russian River.
  5. 6.Who is Dr. Robertson? Tell me how he treats David? Dr. Robertson is David's new psychiatrist. He actually treats David like a real person unlike his past psychiatrists.
  6. 7.Do you think going to see Doc will help him? Why or why not? Can you relate?I think seeing the doc will help him, because this doctor was really nice and treats David like a person.
  7. 8.Is there anything in this chapter that is similar to your life? How? Nothing in this chapter is similar to my life.
  8. 9.Why do you think David’s speech problem disappeared?David's speech disappeared, because he would always picture himself saying things in his mind.
  9. 10.What kind of mom is Alice to David? Tell me a few things she does for him.Alice was a nice foster mother to David. She would always take David shopping and she would present him with a toy. Not only that but she also took David to a movie.
  10. 11.David is changing, describe how he is changing. What is the most important gift he has received. David is changing since he learned to accept gifts. He was never used to receiving presents before. The most important gift he had ever received was a last chance of being a kid again.

  13. 14.What did David want to learn so badly? Why?David always wanted to learn how to fly an aircraft so bad. Ever since he was a child he dreamed of flying up in the sky.
  14. 15.What happened to cause David back at juvenile hall? David ran away which brought him back to Juvenile Hall.
  15. 16.Who are David's new family? Describe the new neighborhood the family moved to. David's new family were the Walshes. The new neighborhood they moved in was really nice and clean.

  17. 18.What do you think of the lady that jabbed her finger at David? What did she say to him?The lady that jabbed her finger at david was so mean. She told David to stay away from her children.
  18. 19.Who are the Marshes?The Marshes were the neighbor who allowed David to visit only on the weekends and he had to call first to reserve a spot.
  19. 20.What was stay like at Walshes. What did he do to protect the youngest kids? David didnt really like staying at the Walshes. At times David would break off the fight to protect the youngest kids.

The Lost Boy Questions Ch. 8

  1. Why did Gordon visit him? How did he react to the idea? Gordon visited David to tell him the news that he was going to move into another foster home. David felt like crying and felt excited after about the news.
  2. What were the 2 ultimate rules for being a foster child? There were two ultimate rules for being a foster child. Rule number one never get attached to anyone, because they come and go. The second rule is never take anyone's home for granted, because someday you'll lose it.
  3. What problem did Gordon face? Gordon's problem was he has to find David a new foster home.
  4. What did Gordon do when he meant desperate times calls for desperate measures? What Gordon meant by despera
  5. How was David treated once back with his foster family? Example At David's former foster family he was ignored most of the time, and was stared with suspicion, because of his past behavior at the other homes.
  6. te times and desperate measures is that he is willing to do anything since it was a time of desperate needs.
  7. What does David compare Gordon to? David compared Gordon to a chameleon.
  8. Who were David’s new family? David's new foster parents were Mr. and Mrs. Nulls.
  9. Describe what his “ new” foster mom was like? David's new foster mother, was nice and lonely, and she babies David too much.
  10. Describe a day at Ms. Nulls house, what did David do all day? David colored, watch TV, wandered around the house all day long. He didn't really have much to do since there were restrictions.
  11. What was happening with Joanne & Michael? Ever since David came and existed to them they began to argue at the fact that he existed in their home.
  12. How many homes have David been in so far? David been in three homes so far.
  13. What was different about his 2nd new foster family? David knew that his 2nd foster family was only temporary.
  14. What order did Gordon give David before leaving Vera’s house? Before David left Vera's house he ordered David to stay away from his mother's house or anywhere near it.

  16. What was the family environment like? David's new family environment was more family genuine bond like.
  17. Describe Jody. Jody chuckled and looked like Santa Claus. He was so nice, that everyone fights to have his attention.
  18. Who is David’s new BFF? Describe him David's new BFF was Carlos. He was a Hispanic boy who didn't speak much English.
  19. Who does David run into at school? Describe How was he? At school David ran into Russell which was his real brother.
  20. Why do you think David is so concerned about his real mom? David was concerned at his real mom, because he knew that she was beating up Russell.
  21. At school who did David see behind Russell? At school, David saw his mother behind Russell.
  22. What was Jody accused of? Jody was accused of raping a girl that was his former foster child.
  23. What happened to all the kids? The kids had to leave from the house as soon as possible.
  24. Where does David end up with? David turned up staying at Alice Turnbough for awhile. He had to sleep at the house since there were no more rooms left for him.

  1. Where was Rudy driving David to? And why? Rudy was driving David to San mateo Juvenile Hall.
  2. Describe David’s new place? How does he feel being there? David's new place was a cell which was composed of dirty white cinder blocks, and the waxed cement floor was faded.
  3. Who was David’s first visitor? Was he excited? David wasn't excited at his first visitor, because this visitors were his parents.
  4. What did David’s father say to him before he could even say anything to him? Before David could say anything his father asked him how was he and how was his new life and freedom which he was always getting into trouble.
  5. What papers do you think David’s mother wanted his father to sign? The papers that David's mother wanted to sign was probably about David's behavior or other than that divorce papers.
  6. Why do you think his mother wants to put him away? i think the reason why David's mother wanted to put him away was that he hated him and she doesnt to beat him up anymore.
  7. What is the master plan of his mom? David's mother's plan was to put david in a mental facility.
  8. What can happen to Lillian? What do you think of her? Lilian could lose her lisence or custody of David. She was a nice person.
  9. Why can’t Ms. Gold visit him? Ms. Gold cant visit David anymore, because he has a probation officer.
  10. Who has full custody of David? David's mother still has full custody of David.
  11. What statement does he use a simile in? p. 204 The statement meant that mr. Catanze's statement hit him like a ton of bricks.
  12. Why did Lillian’s statement matter so much?Lilian's statement matter the most, because it had to do with the way David acted and his behavior.

    I think Mrs. C really cares and loves for David, because she always watches out for him and tells him his mother's plan.

    Mrs Catanze had David's pet turtle inside the chocolate box.

    The lawyer describes David's behavior to the judge by rebellious and he showed an aggressive behavior.
  16. what ended up being the judge’s decision for the arson crime? The judge's decision was that David had to spend 100 hours in a detention facility.

    When David got out he went back to his former foster home.
Chapter 6 “The Defiant One”
  1. How is David’s character changing? Why is he changing? David's character started to change when he got fed up from getting bullied and teased from other kids.
  2. Can you relate to his way of protecting himself? I can relate in a way of protecting myself, because if I were om his place, I would change and act hard enough for people to not pick on me.
  3. What did he do to create excitement? why? In order for David to create an excitement, he would go to a local grocery store and steal candies then moved on to larger objects.
  4. How did the kids feel about it? The kids dared David to help them steal something.
  5. Why did David feel completely drained of emotion? David completely drained of emotion, because he got fed up with his teeter tooter life.
  6. When David was caught what was his plan for an escape? When David was caught, his plan would be that he would run as fast he would.
  7. Why do you think he is so eager to get attention even though it is bad? David was so eager to get attention from other kids, because that was his only way of making friends.
  8. Who was Johnny? What was his dad’s job? Johnny was the kid who played a trick on David. It was his plan on getting David in trouble. Johnny's dad worked at Wal Greens.
  9. What happen in Walgreen? David finally got caught stealing at Wal Greens.
  10. Who is Rudy? What does he discipline on? And what did Rudy mean by “The Hill”? Rudy is David's foster dad and Lilian's husband. Rudy grounded David for what he's done. According to Rudy, "The Hill" meant Juvenile Hall.
  11. When David saw the kid hauling down the street on his bike, what did he plan on doing? David saw the kid riding a bike when he was watching TV., he thought of a plan to runaway.
  12. What did David do and why? David wanted to runaway and so he did. He took money from his money jar and left.
  13. Where did David go? David went to the street where his mother's house was located. Then the next morning he went to Denny's.
  14. Who called Rudy and how did he get the number? The worker who worked at Denny's asked for the Catanze's phone number.
  15. Why do you think David’s father never showed up to see him or even bothered calling? David's father never visited him, because he moved to another fire station and apartment.
  16. Why did Ms. Gold start crying? Ms. Gold started crying, because she didn't want to lose David.
  17. How did the meeting with Ms. Gold make him feel? The meeting with Ms. Gold made David feel happy, especially since she hasn't visited David in awhile.
  18. What does David always write, draw and talk about? During English class, David would always draw and write about his brothers and his separation from them.
  19. Describe John and who he is? John was David's classmate. He had a scraggly, long black hair, and thin worn out clothes, and a very distinctive walk.
  20. What did John want David to do and for what? John wanted David to flatten Mr. Smith's tires.
  21. How is john treating David, give me 2 examples from story. John was treating David like he was a dog, because he would always tells David what to do.
  22. Why does David want to join the gang so badly? David wanted to join the gang so badly, because he wanted to make some friends, and didn't want anyone to pick on him.
  23. How did the fire start? How was David involved? John had started the fire. The only reason David was involved, because he went in the same room as John.
  24. Describe Rudy’s reaction to the fire at school? What is his final decision? Rudy was so mad at David for burning down the school. His final decision was to kick him out of the house.
  25. Make a prediction about what will happen to David in the next chapter. My prediction is that David is going to go through some foster homes until he settle into a permanent one.

Chapter 5
1. Why do you think Larry is so mean? I think the reason why Larry is mean, because he's much bigger than all of the other foster kids.
2. what is David’s new found passion? Davids new found passion was riding his bike.
3. what started the incident with Larry?What did Larry mean when he said clean your clock? The incident with Larry all started when he first picked on David then Chris. When Larry said he was going to clean David's clock was that he was going to kick his butt.
4. What did David do to stick up for himself? Do you think he did the right thing? David finally had the guts to stand up for himself and talk back to Larry, because he was sick and tired of him getting picked on.
5. What happened to Chris’s parents? Chris's parents had abandoned him when he was only a small child.
6. How many foster homes had Chris been through already? Chris had been in over a dozen of foster homes already before he came to the Catanze
7. Why was this Chris’s last year in foster care? It was Chris's last year in foster care, because he was going to turn 18 soon.
8. Why do you think Larry wanted David to call him uncle? Larry asked David to call him uncle, because he was getting tackled by Larry.
9. What kind of doctor did Lilian take David too? Why? Lilian took David to a psychiatrist so David would feel better.
10. Do you think the doctor was nice? Do you think the way David reacted was wrong? I don't think the doctor was nice, he would ask David a questions, and when David answers he would cut him off.
11. What did the doctor keep calling him? How would you have reacted in David’s situation? The doctor kept calling him Daniel instead of David. If i was in his place I would be really mad.
12. What are the sessions like? Describe? The seasons with the doctor were bizarre, because the doctor would ask weird questions.
13. Where do Larry and him ride? Do you think it is a good idea? Why? David and Larry both rode to the place where David used to live. I don't think it was a good idea for him to go over there, because David mother and brother might be outside and see him.
14. Why do you think David wanted to go down the street where his mother and brothers lived? David just wanted to go down to the house where his mother and brothers lived because i guess he misses them.
15. What did David get in trouble for? Was the punishment like his mothers’? David got introuble, because he came down to his mother's house. His punishment wasnt the same as what he got from his mother, because he didnt get any beatings at all.
16. What was Lilian’s serious talk with dad about? Lilian's serious talk with dad was that h had to visit David at least once in awhile.
17. Why was he upset about his mom’s phone number? Why? David was upset with mother's phone number, because she had changed her number.
18. Does the dad every visit? David's dad never visited him not even once.
19. What does he wish for from his dad? David wishes that his dad would visit him.
